What's your wish for the New Library?

Have you seen the new Wishing Well near the circulation desk in our temporary space?  Kids (and adults) have been having a great time sending their spare change whirling down the well (proceeds support the Library) and posting their wishes for the New Library.  Here are a few samples:
  • I wish for the new library to have very interesting books. - Abigail
  • I wish for it to be a very very good library. - Emma
  • To be around a long, long time. - Mary Louise
  • My wish for the new library is that lots of people will come. - Francesca
  • Clowns everywhere! - Tom
What is your wish for the New Ridgefield Library?

I wish the new library has a "redbox" type machine that could dispense the library movies 24/7 that would be terrific !

Interesting idea! Some libraries are doing this (mostly in Europe), and it is certainly a convenience. At present our circulation system doesn't support this particular function but we will keep our ears open for possible upgrades to accommodate more self-service functions.

I like this idea too. But how about a real Redbox machine? Could make some money for the library while offering a good service to residents.

This is certainly something we can look into. Our priority right now is to get the building open and running with the kind of free borrowing (of DVDs and other items) that people expect of a public library. But we are always interested in exploring other ways to provide convenience and also to earn revenue to pay for library service. Stay tuned!
