T-17: Countdown to Opening Weekend!

Seventeen library-based and community book groups held discussions of The Grapes of Wrath and related books during The Big Read in 2010.  Co-sponsored by the Library and the Ridgefield Playhouse and featuring activities presented by 17 town organizations, this project of the National Endowment for the Arts engaged hundreds of Ridgefielders of all ages in exploring the impact of John Steinbeck and his masterwork.

T-20: Countdown to Opening Weekend!

Twenty hardy readers completed the Library’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offering during the 2013 Summer Reading Program for adults, finishing 10 major works of literature in 10 weeks and attending weekly video lectures and in-person discussions.  Several dozen more participated as time allowed, and all were at the cutting edge of library programming nationwide, as the Ridgefield Library’s MOOC program was one of the first of its kind.

T-23: Countdown to Opening Weekend!

The Dayton Program Room hosted thousands of adult programs in the 23 years following its opening in 1990, from book discussions and concerts to author talks and art exhibits.  While the physical structure was demolished last year to make way for a much expanded, sate-of-the-art program room suite in the new Library, a portion of this complex will retain the Dayton Program Room name in recognition of this rich history.

Planning for Programs in the New Ridgefield Library

Our busy program planners are already filling in the calendar for the spring and summer of 2014, when we will be moving into the New Ridgefield Library and able to take advantage of the additional space and expanded resources it will offer.  We will have two main program rooms on the lower level, which can be opened up into one big space for popular events like Ridgefield Folk concerts (look for Kim and Reggie Harris in May). In the picture below, you can see the ceiling track which will hold the room divider making this possible. There will also be two program spaces in the Children's Library, a technology resource center and a board room for meetings.
